Car Hire in Tenerife
What's Included
Renting a car is the best way to experience everything Tenerife has to offer, from the sunny beaches of the south to the lush, mountainous north. With a well-developed road network and three main motorways (TF-1, TF-2, and TF-5), navigating the island is straightforward and scenic.
Freedom of Movement
While the coastal motorways allow you to drive around the entire island in less than 3 hours, the real magic lies in the secondary roads. A car gives you access to the zigzagging mountain passes leading to Mount Teide and the remote rural villages of Anaga that public transport simply cannot reach.
Driving Conditions
Tenerife offers a mix of high-speed highways and narrow, winding rural routes. In urban areas like Santa Cruz or La Laguna, expect heavier traffic, but in southern resorts like Costa Adeje or Los Gigantes, driving is typically relaxed and jam-free.
Local Rules to Remember
Cars drive on the right side of the road here. Speed limits are strictly enforced by cameras and range from 30 km/h in urban zones to 120 km/h on motorways. Most intersections use roundabouts rather than traffic lights, and motorway exits are clearly marked as "SALIDA."
